Death of an Outsider
February 14 - March 25, 2023
538 N Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90004
Death of an Outsider is an ode to the vast spectrum of artists breaking new ground and taking risks within their creative pursuits; not for the world, or for the art world for that matter, but for themselves. All artists inherently start out as Outsiders when first attempting to express their unique voice, but when many– usually those artists already on the margins– are unaware, and unable to leave this classification behind, it can result in their artistic legacies and oeuvres being excluded from wider recognition.
The 28 artists included in Death of an Outsider come from extremely varied circumstances ranging from MFA-level training to literally starting from scratch in remote settings, but they are aligned in their fierce search for truth and originality. The exhibition is the gallery’s first in Los Angeles and ventures to put all artists, no matter their background, on a level playing field to be considered as equals.
