Rob Ober

Rob Ober painted 11 unique skateboards to help us launch a reboot of an old passion project called MAKE Skateboards, which released limited-edition skateboard decks with many friends and artists beginning in 2011. Collaborations included skateboards and garments designed by artists including Erik Parker, Marina Kappos, Peter Saul, Prophet Royal Robertson and many others. The first Make Skateboards exhibition at legendary I-20 Gallery also included hand-painted skateboards by an even wider group of artists.

Ober's iconic skateboards are now on view at SHRINE Underground, which is located n the gallery's lower level. These unique works of skateboard art display the same rough-hewn painted textures, intuitive compositions and inventiveness of form as the artist's larger works on canvas, and they also signal back to Ober's formative years living in Moscow and skateboarding with local skaters there in the early 1980s.
