Kambel Smith
Autisarian City
May 18 - 21, 2023
NADA New York
548 West 22nd Street, NY 10011
This week at NADA New York, Kambel Smith unveils Autisarian City, a dramatic installation and conceptual utopia where everyone is equal and free to be themselves. Combining iconic buildings and famous monuments from NYC and his hometown of Philadelphia, the presentation highlights Smith's incredible natural ability to gauge perspective and scale without the use of measuring tools.
With no formal training in art or architecture, Smith intuitively gravitated towards simple materials such as found cardboard, spray paint, duct tape and digital prints made on his family's computer. All of Smith's finished sculptures transcend their humble materials and resonate as heartfelt tributes to the iconic structures that inspire him.
Kambel Smith (b.1986, Oklahoma) lives and works in Philadelphia, PA and has had solo-exhibitions at The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Atlanta, GA; Elaine de Kooning House, East Hampton, NY; and the 2019 Outsider Art Fair (presented by Chris Byrne), New York, NY. Smith has been included in group exhibitions at Marlborough, London and New York; the Brooklyn Print & Photo Fair, Brooklyn, NY, and the presentation One Day You’ll See: A History of Afrofuturism, curated by Brian Chidester.
