Billy White
Bio
Billy White (b.1962) is obsessed with documenting his childhood heroes. He depicts the musicians, artists and actors who have inspired him since he was young boy, which is also when he was hit by a car leaving him permanently disabled. Elvis, Joe DiMaggio, Mr. T, DMX, Van Gogh and Eddie Murphy all make appearances in his highly expressive paintings, drawings and ceramic sculptures. Working intuitively, with complete freedom from the pitfalls of self-doubt, White has no hesitation in his artistic practice. His works are direct and function as intimate, unmediated expressions of what and how he perceives the world.
White is an artist at the NIAD Art Center in Richmond, California, which is an art studio and program for individuals with developmental disabilities.
