Arstanda Billy White

Bio

Arstanda Billy White (b.1962) is a self-taught artist from Richmond, CA, who has dedicated his life to art and finds a deep sense of purpose in documenting his childhood heroes and pop icons. White depicts the musicians, artists, and actors who have inspired him since he was a young boy, which is also when he was hit by a car, leaving him permanently disabled. Elvis, Joe DiMaggio, Mr. T, Van Gogh. DMX and Eddie Murphy all make regular appearances in his expressive paintings, drawings and ceramic sculptures.

Working intuitively and with complete freedom from the pitfalls of self-doubt, White has no hesitation in his artistic practice. His works are direct and function as intimate and unmediated expressions of how he perceives the world. Artstanda Billy White works at the NIAD Art Center in Richmond, CA, an art studio and program for individuals with developmental disabilities.
